How does Acupuncture work?

Acupuncture treatment is based on a philosophy that promotes balance and harmony in the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of human beings. It is believed that illness is caused by energy imbalance in the organ systems and meridian systems. By stimulating the specific acupoints, it works to regulate the Qi (vital life energy) flow through the meridians (energy pathway), therefore to correct the imbalance and restore health.

The constant flow of Qi throughout the body is what keeps the yin and yang forces of the body in balance. If that flow is blocked, then the disruption can lead to pain, malfunction, and illness. Acupuncture seeks to release blocked Qi by assisting the natural healing response that the body already has, improving sleep, digestion, pain, and overall sense of well-being. Through the stimulation of those acupoints, the acupuncture procedure is able to improve the functions of the body and to promote self-healing. Contemporary researchers have shown that the stimulation of acupoints has positive benefits for the digestive, cardiovascular, immune, endocrine, and nervous systems of the body.
